Is it OK to use an ‘old’ foundation?

On Black Friday, a traveling caller called in  with a great question…

QUESTION: “I’m on Thanksgiving holiday and I left my makeup at my dorm. I found some of my old foundation at home, can I still use it?” 

Hhmmm this is a great question. Should she use the liquid foundation or rush out to Sephora for Black Friday makeup sales??? 

My sweet caller guessed the foundation is around 3-4 months old. She said the consistency is smooth and creamy (not separated where some is really watery and some is dried like clay). I asked her about her skin type and she said it’s normal with a few breakouts. She takes great care of her skin and uses prescription skincare. 

I asked her about her skin because I want her to be extra cautious if she has cystic acne, open acne breakouts, or she has been doing any medical spa treatments like dermablading or microneedling. 

My caller has normal skin and the foundation is 4 months old so the answer I gave her is …

ANSWER: It’s fine to use the 4 month old foundation. 

Enjoy using the foundation. Please toss any eye makeup that is older than 3 months!
